Nicholas has been getting bottles for a very short time the past 3 days and he's been gradually increasing his intake. His saturated oxygen level is remaining high and that is also very important as that will dictate when they can wean him down again. The first 2 days he was given a bottle for 10 minutes and he took 10 and 15 ml. This afternoon he took 20 ml in 15 minutes. 15 minutes is the max. time right now because that is half of what his normal feeding time will be and we don't want him to tire out.
Nicholas has been to 2 different NICUs now and in both instances you see the same thing: a lack of parents. We do see some every now and then but usually it's not very often. Then there are some parents who don't go at all. We've asked nurses in both places about this and they said that the parents usually don't start coming until they're getting closer to going home. It's just sad to see.
NICHOLAS is a very fortunate little fellow. He has a Mommy and Daddy that is there for his diaper changes, his feedings, talking to his doctors and nurses and there just to LOVE him and let him know you are there for him. My heart goes out for the babies that do not get the attention from their parents as NICHOLAS does. There may be valid reasons why their parents are not there. The Moms may be sick, finances may no allow them to come often but even so they will never get these times back. The doctors say that Mom and Dad,s voices and their touch is the first things that a baby can recognize. I know that NICHOLAS knows when ya,ll are there just by his movements. I love NICHOLAS with all my heart and soul. I pray for HIM everyday and for ya,ll also. I love to just look at him. Asleep or awake it is everything to me just to watch him. HE gets more and more handsome every time I get to see him. His PaPa and I love HIM so very very much. Please tell HIM for us and give him a kiss for us also. We love all three of you so very much Love NANA and PAPA.
