This morning Nicholas went to see the pulmonologist and he was able to turn Nicholas' oxygen down to 1/16. It was on 1/8 for the past 2 weeks after being on 1/4 for the previous 2 weeks. The doctor said his lungs didn't sound crackely like they did last time (we were told they sounded like that in the NICU too). If everything goes well these next 2 weeks then they want us to turn his oxygen down to 1/32. If Nicholas does well with that on his next visit the doctor will begin the process of Nicholas coming completely off of oxygen!!!!! He is so close to coming off and we can not help but smile. Remember, the sooner Nicholas comes off of the oxygen the sooner they can put the tubes in his ears to try and fix his hearing.

Praying that Nicholas' lungs will "do their thing" and hold up to the task at hand! I cannot wait to see that precious little face free of the canula and those sweet cheeks tape-free!
ReplyDeleteLuckily lungs will continue to grow more tissue up until the age of 8. We can't wait to post pictures without his nasal cannula as well.
ReplyDeleteHe may not know it, but I'm sure he's looking forward to being tube free just as much as mom and dad. He's so precious - just growing and growing and growing. Now if mom will just wake up and feed me, I'll grow some more!
ReplyDeleteHa!! She actually is starting to dread feeding Nicholas because he throws a fit with her :-) The bear his Nanna gave him is just about the only thing that will calm him down.
